TEACHING SUMMER INSTITUTE

"Traveling to China with Operation DEEP and mentoring educators entirely changed my view of education and opened my mind."

WHAT?

Initiated in 2009, the Teaching Summer Institute is a two-week long service learning program in rural China hosted by Operation DEEP and run by the global chapter Teaching and Exchange of Chinese Culture. TSI recruits four to six Cornell students who are interested in Chinese geopolitics, Chinese culture, and education development.

WHY?

DEEP believes in creating meaningful and direct cultural exchanges between Cornell students and rural Chinese middle and high school students. We opened up these opportunities for Cornellians who are dedicated to educational improvement and learning more about the Chinese hukou system.

HOW?

Each spring semester, DEEP pushes out TSI applications and holds information sessions that are mandatory for the application process. After screening, DEEP then selects individuals for interviews. Finalists for the TSI program are chosen for the TSI program.
